Kids Helping the Hungry

Child with a bucket.Kids: You Can Help End Hunger

Thanks for visiting the Rhode Island Community Food Bank's Kids Page! The Food Bank helps people and kids who don’t have enough money to buy food. We give them healthy food when they need it so that no one has to go hungry.

Check out the ways you can help kids just like you.

Use the Nothing Can to Collect Money for the Food Bank

The Nothing Can symbolizes what too many of our neighbors have on their table each day: nothing. You can change that. Here’s how:

Have your school or church call the Food Bank to participate in the Cans of Nothing program (PDF, 505KB). After you receive your Cans of Nothing, use them to collect change for the Food Bank. Your donation means change for the better for hungry Rhode Islanders.

Have a Food Drive

The Food Bank will help you run a food drive at your school, church, neighborhood or your next birthday party. We’ll provide the posters and the food drive bins to make your drive a success.
Check out our list of most-needed items Contact Farris Maxwell at (401) 942-6325 ext. 224 or via email for your posters and bins.

Volunteer at a RI Community Farm

During the growing and farming season, the RI Community Farms are looking for kids willing to get their hands dirty. Contact a participating farm near you to see how you can help.

Raising the Bar on Nutrition... for Kids!

Healthy Recipes for Kids

As a graduation project, an 8th grader at LaSalle Academy has taken all the recipes from our nutrition education program, Raising the Bar on Nutrition, and turned them into a cookbook especially for kids. All the recipes have been re-written so that a grade-school aged child can follow them. Additionally, each recipe contains at least two servings of vegetables. You'll be surprised at how delicious vegetables taste when they are cooked in olive oil! Download the cookbook here (PDF, 1.58MB).
