Common $ense Cooking is a series of instructional videos on preparing nutritious, well-balanced meals inexpensively. Full of money-saving tips, menu planning strategies and easy-to-follow recipes, each aims to stretch food dollars further while highlighting the importance of well-balanced meals.
The Common $ense Cooking series is the product of a partnership between the Rhode Island Community Food Bank and Rhode Island PBS.

Meet the Hosts
Nancy Verde Barr was the former Executive Chef to Julia Child for 18 years and the culinary producer for PBS' Baking with Julia and ABC's Good Morning America.
In addition to her television experience, Nancy has written for Gourmet Magazine, Food and Wine, Bon Appetit, Parade, Cook's Magazine and Fine Cooking. She is the author of three award-winning cookbooks, including We Called It Macaroni and Make It Italian, and recently co-authored The Pink Ribbon Diet with Dr. Mary Flynn. She also released a book titled Backstage with Julia: My Years With Julia Child, which chronicles her life as Julia's assistant.
Dr. Mary Flynn is a registered dietitian and nutritionist at Lifespan and The Miriam Hospital where she teaches patients how to make better food choices for a healthier lifestyle. She also maintains academic appointments at Brown University and the University of Rhode Island.
Mary co-authored The Pink Ribbon Diet with Nancy Verde Barr, and wrote Low-Fat Lies, High-Fat Frauds & The Healthiest Diet in the World with Dr. Kevin Vigilante. Dr. Flynn is also a member of the Food Bank’s Board of Directors and developed the Raising the Bar on Nutrition program.
