Volunteer Opportunities

The Rhode Island Community Food Bank offers a multitude of volunteer projects.

Update: New Volunteer Opportunity!

Neighborhood Pantry Express: This program delivers fresh produce to areas of the state with the highest unmet need.  Volunteers are needed weekly at several Neighborhood Pantry Express sites to help set up a Farmer’s Market for client shopping.  The following opportunities are available from the first week in July through the middle of October.

Bradford Jonnycake Center in Westerly:  Mondays from 11:30-1:30

Note:
This volunteer opportunity takes place outdoors and involves moderate lifting and moving of produce.

Sorting & Re-Pack: Every week, almost 60,000 pounds of food is donated to the Food Bank. Volunteers are needed to sort through the food to determine its quality for consumption.

Administrative Support: Computer literate volunteers are needed for various duties including data entry, filing, mailings, record keeping, and public outreach.

Special Events: Volunteers are needed at special events to help with various tasks, including ticket collection and ticket sales. We typically have shifts needed before, during and after each event.

Organize a Food Drive: The Food Bank heavily relies on community food drives to help feed the hungry. Please click here to learn more about organizing a local food drive.

Neighborhood Pantry Express: Volunteers are needed at the Newport, Pawtucket, Westerly and Peacedale Neighborhood Pantry Express sites to help set up a Farmer’s Market for client shopping.  This is a seasonal activity and will be available weekday mornings from June through October.  Dates and times to be determined.

Kids Cafe Driver: An afternoon activity, this is an opportunity for volunteers with driving experience. Meals, which are prepared by the Food Bank's Community Kitchen program, need to be delivered to various Boys and Girls Clubs throughout the Providence area. The volunteer must have a valid driver's license and be able and willing to lift.

Customer Service Assistant: The Customer Service Assistant helps the Customer Service Staff with client check in, montoring the shopping area, recording weights and other office work. This is a morning opportunity and involves direct agency/client interaction.

You may contact the Food Bank's Volunteer Manager, Kelly Nichols, by email or by phone at 401-942-6325 x256.
